This condition refers to pain felt at the level of the metatarsal heads (bases of the toes), most commonly affecting the last four toes. This problem usually develops due to alterations in the distribution/support of body weight at the foot level, causing overload in certain regions and consequent inflammation of the joint synovial tissue. The most common symptoms are foot pain during walking, swelling on the sole of the foot, and alteration of the walking pattern due to pain.
