Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, that is, the dense tissue covering the sole of the foot. This fascia connects the calcaneus to the toes, contributing to the formation of the plantar arch. Plantar fasciitis is caused by repetitive microtrauma and may result from alterations in the anatomy of the foot arch, tension of the Achilles tendon, obesity or excessive weight gain, excessive use of high heels, among others. Symptoms include pain on the sole of the foot with difficulty walking and stiffness in the sole of the foot. This condition is often associated with the commonly known heel spur (see).
