Cervical spondylosis (cervical spine osteoarthritis)
It is characterized by degenerative changes (wear and tear) of the cervical spine joints, mainly affecting the articular cartilage. These changes are related to the ageing process and excessive use of these joints, which favours joint degeneration. Osteoarthritis may occur in the zygapophyseal or uncovertebral joints and cause symptoms such as pain, stiffness, limitation of neck movements and, in certain cases, compression of neural structures that radiate pain and/or numbness into the upper limb. Cervical spondylosis is often associated with the formation of osteophytes, commonly known as bone spurs, which are hook-shaped bony formations that develop in joints/body regions that have been subjected to greater impact or hypermobility over time.
