trigeminal neuralgia
It is a disorder of the trigeminal nerve (the fifth cranial nerve) that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and/or jaw. It usually occurs on only one side of the face, although it may be bilateral. It is characterized by recurrent episodes of sudden, sharp pain, often described as an intense and painful electric shock. The pain may be triggered by small movements such as drinking, brushing the teeth, or chewing. The causes of this condition may be related to dysfunctions of the cranial bones and their relationship with the spine, leading to compression of the trigeminal nerve and consequent symptoms in its area of innervation.
