Hip osteoarthritis
It is characterized by an alteration in the integrity of the articular cartilage covering the hip joint, with progressive wear of the cartilage. Pain is usually felt over the hip joint and may also radiate to the groin and anterior thigh. Symptoms include limitation of hip movements, sometimes flexion deformity of the hip, pain during walking, especially after a period of rest, and in more advanced stages limping (claudication). In these cases, physiotherapy may help to control pain, improve mobility, re-educate gait, and promote cartilage nutrition in order to prevent the progression of joint degeneration.
