Rotator cuff tendinitis/tendinopathies

Tendinitis is defined as inflammation of a tendon and may affect various tendons in the body. A tendon is a fibrous structure that functions like a cord connecting muscles to bones, transmitting the force that allows movement. Tendinitis is caused in most cases by overload, repetitive movements, postural misalignments, and biomechanical alterations that lead to tendon inflammation, causing pain and limitation of movement. When this inflammation persists for a prolonged period, structural changes begin to occur in the tendon, leading to weakening and degeneration, and the condition should then be referred to as tendinosis. In the shoulder, the most common tendinitis and tendinosis occur in the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint and contributing to its stability: the rotator cuff muscles (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and teres minor).
