Algoneurodystrophy of the hand
Algoneurodystrophy, also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, is a chronic pain syndrome characterised by dysfunction of the musculoskeletal, vascular and skin systems.
The cause of its onset is unknown, but it is a condition that may develop after trauma, such as a fracture, dislocation or contusion, among others.
The most common symptoms include persistent pain triggered by light stimuli, numbness, swelling, increased sweating in the hand, flexion deformity of the fingers, among others.
It is a complex condition and is believed to have a multifactorial origin.
Physiotherapy can help control symptoms and improve the patient’s quality of life.
