Dupuytren’s contracture
Dupuytren’s contracture is a fixed contracture of the hand, with one or more fingers bent into flexion. It is characterised by thickening of the palmar fascia, the tissue found beneath the skin of the hand.
This condition can range from small hard nodules to very thick bands in the palm of the hand, which may pull on the fingers and cause them to remain “bent”.
Dupuytren’s contracture causes functional limitation due to the inability to straighten the fingers.
