Recovery after finger or wrist fractures

Fractures are usually caused by trauma and are characterised by a break in the continuity of a bone.

Treatment usually involves a period of immobilisation to allow bone healing. After this period, there is typically a loss of muscle strength and mobility, making intervention necessary to recover normal movement and return to daily and work-related activities.

Some types of fractures require surgical treatment and stabilisation with plates or screws, which may also lead to loss of muscle strength and joint mobility.

In these cases, physiotherapy is also essential to help restore normal function.
