Tendinites do punho/ mão
Tendinitis is defined as inflammation of a tendon and can affect several tendons in the body. A tendon is a fibrous structure that acts like a cord, connecting muscles to bones and transmitting the force that allows movement to occur.
In most cases, tendinitis is caused by overload, repetitive movements, postural misalignments and biomechanical changes that lead to tendon inflammation, causing pain and limitation of movement.
When this inflammation persists over a prolonged period, structural changes begin to occur in the tendon, leading to weakening and degeneration. In these cases, it should be referred to as tendinosis.
In the hand, one of the most common types of tendinitis is De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, which corresponds to inflammation of the tendon sheath of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis muscles of the thumb. This causes pain when extending the thumb and when moving it away from the other fingers.
Treatment involves controlling pain and reducing the factors that contribute to the development of tendinitis.
