Throughout a woman's life cycle, physical therapy is always present. Physioclem provides individual or group care during pregnancy, postpartum, for female urinary and fecal incontinence (men and children may also need it), for surgical conditions of the breast, menopausal problems, and sexual dysfunctions related to the pelvic floor in men and women.
Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence (UI), the uncontrollable loss of urine, is more than just a physical problem for women; it can also have emotional consequences due to the unpleasant situation it creates.
Although it can have various causes, UI is, in most cases, related to weakness of the pelvic floor muscles. This weakness occurs especially in women due to different stages of their lives, such as pregnancy/childbirth, as well as hormonal changes (menopause, among others).
Physical therapy helps to reactivate and strengthen these muscles naturally, following a personalized and individual exercise plan, which can avoid the need for medication and surgery.
In the treatment of urinary incontinence, whenever necessary, we resort to the use of technological means, such as Biofeedback and Stimulators.
Pelvic Pain
Pelvic pain (felt in the pelvic region/perineum/vagina/anus) can have a physical cause, like pain in any other part of the body, because this region also has muscles, ligaments, nerves, vessels, etc., which can cause discomfort. Patients feel acute pain (described as burning, constant aching), numbness, pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia).
Complaints may occur after surgery on the uterus, vagina, episiotomy (scar caused by cutting/tearing during childbirth) or even for no apparent reason.
At Physioclem, we have a specific physiotherapy program that can help resolve these types of situations, using techniques that improve your musculoskeletal system.

Exercise during pregnancy course
Pregnancy is a stage in a woman's life in which she faces physiological and psychosocial changes. Specific exercises for this stage of a woman's life are recommended as one of the best strategies and benefits to be taken. However, it is important that they are supervised by specialized professionals in order to determine the appropriate intensity and frequency for the pregnant woman.
MommyCare and Physioclem have developed a program of classes for pregnancy, enabling exercise to be carried out in a comfortable and safe environment.
Postpartum
After giving birth, when she returns home, the new mother needs to rest, eat well, and devote herself entirely to caring for her baby and herself. Four to six weeks after giving birth, it is time to start recovery exercises, which will allow women to get back into shape more easily, learn about their bodies, and increase their confidence and self-esteem.
Physioclem's postpartum classes include localized exercises to help women get back into shape, minimize the consequences of pregnancy (such as back pain), and promote better posture. The aim is to strengthen the lower back, promote correct abdominal strength and function, and reinforce the pelvic floor to prevent and treat urinary incontinence, control weight, release tension in the shoulders and neck, reduce fatigue, and contribute to relaxation.
The postpartum course was thus created to enable postpartum women to reconnect with their minds and bodies in this new phase of intense transformation in their lives: motherhood. In addition to enabling the treatment and prevention of postpartum dysfunctions, the course classes will allow mothers to work on their bond with their babies and feel good physically and mentally. In Leiria, the course is run in partnership with MommyCare.
Pregnancy Massage
To help you enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest, Physioclem offers a special massage for pregnant women, which helps you relax and relieve minor tensions.
In most cases, pregnancy causes women to experience increased anxiety and stress, leading them to feel less confident because their bodies are changing and their routines are becoming more focused on the baby. At this stage, women are more sensitive and therefore need more attention and affection.
Postpartum Massage
The emptiness in the belly, the return to a “normal” posture after 9 months of pregnancy, the recovery of weight gained, the physical and emotional stress of childbirth, the new breastfeeding postures, daily care of the baby, and lack of rest create an accumulation of tension and incorrect postures in women that are difficult to overcome.
In postpartum massage, through postural decompression, stretching, and relaxation techniques, we promote general well-being in order to restore and improve fatigue and lack of energy so that you feel more fit and comfortable in the new tasks of your life.
Baby Massage
Touch is a privileged form of communication between parents and their baby. This massage facilitates the baby's growth and motor and cognitive development. It reduces stress levels and promotes peaceful sleep, increases the effectiveness of the immune system, improves circulation and breathing, and facilitates digestion and bowel movements, reducing the incidence of colic.
For parents, massaging their baby promotes well-being and relaxation, increases prolactin levels in the mother, and facilitates communication between parents and baby.
By massaging their baby, parents convey love, security, and physical comfort, strengthening the bond between them. Give your baby moments of pure pleasure.
In Leiria, the Baby Massage workshop is available at MommyCare.
